Sheet Metal Workers Local 17 J.A.T.C. is committed to providing union top-notch training for aspiring sheet metal workers. Our five-year sheet metal apprenticeship program in Massachusetts combines hands-on training with theoretical education, ensuring our graduates are well-equipped for success.

Our Vision

Local 17 was founded in 1896, so that men and women working in the sheet metal trade industry could bargain collectively for better work standards. Local 17 JATC apprenticeship provides schooling in safety, drafting, sheet metal layout, math, service work, field installation, architectural sheet metal, welding, blueprint reading, sheet metal sketching, C.A.D., residential heating, HVAC, testing, air, and balancing of air and water systems.

Our Apprenticeship

J.A.T.C. apprenticeship is a five-year program. To graduate from our apprenticeship program, you need 8000 work hours as well as 750 school hours. For one month each apprenticeship year, you attend our training center. While attending school, you are paid 60% of your current wage. For the remaining months, you are placed with a union company for on-the-job training.
